The Mitchell Elementary School Library provides library information services to students, faculty, and the school community. In the library we strive to develop the skills necessary to meet the lifelong informational needs of students while encouraging them to develop a never ending love of reading. The librarian works with other teachers to achieve the goals of our curriculum. Resources to achieve this include an organized, diverse, and current collection of learning resources, as well as access to other libraries and information sources. Our library is open from 7:30 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. each school day. All classes are scheduled to the library every week for a time of library instruction and checking out library books. Our school participates in the Accelerated Reading program; therefore, all students are encouraged to select library books which are written "on the child's reading level". You can view test information at Accelerated Reader Book Finder. Click on the link to view quizzes. Students may visit our library daily to return and to check out books. Students in first grade may borrow two books at a time. Students in second, third, fourth, and fifth grades may borrow three books at a time. Kindergarten students borrow only one book each week. All students are responsible for taking care of the books borrowed. They are expected to pay for lost library books, as well as for library books which are damaged. We welcome parent and grandparent volunteers! Our librarian assistant is Edith Dempsey.
