Bryan ISD is excited to announce that Tami Glenn, a kindergarten teacher at Jones Elementary School, has been selected as the Region 6 Elementary Teacher of the Year!

This is the second year in a row that one of our Bryan ISD educators has been recognized as one of the best in the state. Last year’s Region and State Secondary Teacher of the Year Naveen Cunha, who represented Bryan ISD and SFA Middle School, helped pass the baton to Glenn after the surprise announcement at the 2024 Bryan ISD Convocation Ceremony held on August 9.

Glenn was selected as the Region’s Elementary Teacher of the Year out of 56 districts in the region. She will now go on to represent Region 6 and Bryan ISD at the state level.

When an excerpt from her essay was displayed on the screen at Convocation, she said, it took her a few minutes to fully realize what was happening and what it meant.

“It was a complete and total shock,” Glenn said. “I just still can’t believe it. It’s such an honor.”

She described it as one of those “wow moments.”

Glenn was selected as the District’s Elementary Teacher of the Year for the 2023-2024 school year in the spring and was recognized on stage as one of the seven Bryan ISD educators of the year. Jason Jeitz from Region 6 then came onstage to make the special announcement as Glenn’s family gathered behind her to add to the surprise.

“Every year, ESC 6 is tasked with finding a teacher at both the secondary and elementary level who displays the qualities of an outstanding educator to represent the region,” Jeitz, deputy director for instructional services at Region 6 Education Service Center, said. “These educators, along with the teachers from the other 19 regions, will then have the opportunity to become the Teacher of the Year in the State of Texas. And today we’re here to honor another excellent educator from Bryan ISD.”

Bryan ISD Superintendent Ginger Carrabine said it is almost unheard of to have back-to-back region teachers of the year.

“This just goes to show the caliber of teachers in our classroom and the caliber and the high standards of all of our employees in Bryan ISD,” Carrabine said on stage. “Great things are happening in Bryan ISD.”
